How can I stay informed on what's going on at Centennial?

How do I register my child at Centennial?

You’ll see it’s easy to register your child at Centennial! Please ask for registration materials in the Centennial Elementary Office. Parents of new students should bring the following information to the school office:

  • Birth Certificate (children must be 5 years old by August 31)
  • Immunization Record
  • Emergency telephone numbers
  • Proof of residence

Returning students do not need to register.

Can I visit my child's classroom?

Absolutely! We welcome visiting parents. You may call the office to set up a convenient time for a visit. Involved parents really make a difference, and we love to see you at Centennial. We ask that you please report to the office when you arrive at the building. We will give you a visitor's welcome badge and help you maneuver  the layout of our school.

Can my child eat breakfast and/or lunch at school?

Yes, the cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch daily. We serve delicious and nutritious meals for our students and guests. Please see the chart below for prices.

We also offer reduced-price breakfast and lunch for qualifying students. Please ask for an application in the school office or cafeteria. We require only one application per family.

Do I need to reapply for reduced price meals?

Yes, we ask that you complete a reduced-price meal application each year. However, children who qualified for free or reduced priced meals on May 25 automatically qualify for the same benefits for the first 30 days of school. Please submit a new application to the Centennial office by September 20 in order to continue.

What is the dress code at Centennial?

We care about what our students wear – appearance is part of inspiring, engaging, and energizing our kids. Your child should avoid wearing anything that could distract or harm others. Help your child avoid any clothing displaying objectionable or gang-related symbols. Your child's pants and shorts should fit at the waist. Keeps all undergarments covered. We ask that your child wear caps outdoors only, and not backwards or sideways. Help your child avoid wearing potentially harmful accessories like spiked jewelry or oversize earrings.

What time should I drop off / pick up my child?

Your child should not arrive before 7:30 a.m. when supervision begins. Please pick up your child promptly at dismissal time (2:10 p.m.) The Y.E.S. Program provides educational and recreational activities to students before (6:30-7:30am) and after school (2:00 pm -6:30 pm).

Y.E.S. staff members transition students through Homework Time; Reading/Math/Science Center; and Crafts. On Fridays, the students do fun recreation activities as well as cooking projects. If you have any questions regarding these programs, please call (520) 887-2600.

What should I do if my child must be absent?

Parents, please call the school office by 9:30 a.m. if a child is going to absent from school, or late to school. If a child does not arrive at school, we want to be sure he/she is safe with you.

What should we do if my child arrives late?

Please have your child report to the office before going to the classroom if he or she arrives after 8:00 a.m. If your child gets to school after 10 a.m. please sign them in at the school office before they join their class.

Can my child go home with a friend after school?

Please inform the school of any change in your child’s transportation before 1:00 p.m. Otherwise, your child will need to go home as usual. A student may not ride or walk home with another student or get off at a different bus stop without a note from a parent or a timely call to the office.

When will I have a parent/teacher conference?

Please check our school calendar to see parent/teacher conference days.
We are also willing to schedule a conference any time during the year should you feel the need. Please feel free to call and arrange a time at your convenience. We find that communication between school and home allows us to support each other, so contact your child's teacher as soon as you feel a need.

What are the guidelines for cell phones at school?

We understand that your child may carry a cell phone in case of emergencies. We ask that your child keep his or her cell phones in the school office during the school day. We recommend that your child not bring radios, tape recorders, Walkmans, Gameboys, electronic devices, expensive jewelry or large sums of money to school.

What if my child needs to take medicine at school?

The school nurse may administer medication only if she has a signed parent consent allowing this. You may request this form in the school office. In the event we cannot reach a parent, we ask that you list emergency contact numbers for us to use. Please list at least two persons to contact in the event of student illness or injury; and review or update forms as needed or requested.

The school nurse monitors immunizations, conducts health screenings, maintains medical records, and cares for students who are ill or have emergency medical needs at school. She works with parents and students and advises on preventive health care. She also calls parents to pick up children who are injured or ill.

Does Centennial offer school insurance?

Yes, you may obtain school accident insurance for your child for a small fee. We recommend this coverage for students when they are not covered by other insurance plans. Please stop by the school office for an information packet.
